Whether you want to create a video tutorial, record a game clip, or preserve a memory; there could be many reasons why you may want to record the screen on your Android.

Unlike iOS, which has had a built-in screen recorder for years, Android users have always relied on third-party screen recorders . However, that changed when Google bought an in-house screen recorder with the introduction of Android 11 .

While the update has made it easy for people to record screen on Android, some smartphones are still waiting for the latest Android 11 update.

In this article, we will tell you how to screen record on your Android 11 device. Also, how to record screen if your Android doesn’t have a built-in screen recorder —

On the record screen settings in Android, you can set the audio source as internal audio, microphone, or both. You can also toggle show touches on the screen if you are making a tutorial video. Note that the screen recording on Android starts after a three-second countdown.

Smartphones running a custom Android skin such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung, etc., roughly use the same method to record screen on Android.

For instance, Xiaomi users will also find the screen record button in the Quick Settings. However, to stop the recording, users will have to tap on the stop button floating on the home screen. Apart from that, Mi users can change the video resolution, video quality, and set the frame rate, all of which are not available on stock Android.

Again, Samsung users will also find the screen recording button in the Quick Settings. They can also choose to draw on the screen or enable PiP to record the screen with a video overlay of themselves.

Unfortunately, only a few Samsung devices feature the Android screen recorder. Here’s a list of them —

    • Galaxy S9, S9+, S10e, S10, S10+, S10 5G, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
    • Galaxy Note9, Note10, Note10+, Note10+ 5G, Note20, Note20 Ultra

    • Galaxy Tab S4, Tab Active Pro, Tab S5e, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite, Tab S7, Tab S7+

    Third-party apps

There are several third-party apps that help you screen record your Android smartphone. Recently, I have been using the MNML Screen Recorder .

This screen recorder app for Android is ad-free, features a minimal interface, and is completely open-source, therefore a good option for those who have concerns for their privacy.

The app does not feature a video editor like other popular screen recorder apps such as AZ Screen Recorder . However, you can still change the frame rate, video, and audio bit rate. Overall, it’s a good alternative if you want to record the screen on your Android device.

So this is how you can screen record on your Android device. Was this guide helpful? Let us know in the comments down below.

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / FossBytes · Thursday, 18 February, 2021 - 11:34 · 2 minutes

    Split screen on Android11

Google introduced us to the Android split screen as a productivity feature first in Android 7.0 Nougat. It enables you to use two apps at the same time. For example, you can run a YouTube video on one side of the screen and reply to a text on the other.

Over the years, the feature has seen few enhancements, therefore not many people know that you can split the screen on any Android device and use two apps at the same time. In this article, we will tell you how to use Android’s Split screen mode.

How to use Split screen on Android?

While most Android devices feature multi-window support, the steps to toggle the feature might be slightly different on smartphones running their own custom Android skin. That being said, the Split screen toggle is usually located in the Recent apps menu.

For the purpose of this article, we will show you how to enable Split screen mode on MIUI/Xiaomi device:

    • Open the Android app that you want to run on one side of the screen
    • Tap on the Recent app button on the bottom left of the screen
How to enable split screen on Android?
    • Long press on the app in the Recent app tray

    • Tap on the Android split screen button

You will observe a black bar separating the two apps while in Split screen mode. You can drag it up or down to increase the size of an app. To remove the split screen mode on Android, drag the black bar entirely towards the edge of the screen.

In Xiaomi devices, you can also toggle the Android split-screen in an app by long-pressing a navigation button while. Head over to the Additional Settings > Button Shortcuts > Functional Shortcuts to enable it. Non-Xiaomi device owners can download the Split Screen shortcut app from the Google Play Store to get this functionality.

    MIUI enable split screen

Please note that some apps may not run smoothly in split-screen mode, and very few might not support Android’s Multi-window feature. However, you can force an app to run in split-screen mode by enabling “Force activities to be resizable” in Android’s developer settings . Make sure your restart after toggling this option.

    Force activities to be resizable-min

How to play two videos at once?

Presently, the split screen mode on Android does not allow users to play two videos simultaneously. If you have opened YouTube on one side and try to open it again on the other side, the app will simply reopen on the first screen.

You can do two videos side by side if the other video is not from the same platform, however Android will still not allow you to play the videos together. Similarly, you can also view photos side by side as long as they are opened on two different platforms.

So, this was how you could use the Split screen in Android. Were you able to enable the Android split-screen on your device? Let us know in the comments down below.

How To Block Text Messages On iPhone And Android?

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / FossBytes · Tuesday, 16 February, 2021 - 12:34 · 3 minutes

    How To Block Text Messages

Users, for the most part, are required to register their phone numbers in order to use a platform; it could be an app, a bank service, or a business.

The problem with giving away your phone number is that you might get unsolicited text messages, and blocking the number from texting could be the only practical solution.

Hence, if you are annoyed with the number of spam messages that you receive on a daily basis, there are ways to block text messages on iPhone and Android.

    Can you block text messages?

The short answer is Yes — You can block texts on iPhone and on Android. But if we were to compare, blocking spam messages on Android is more effective than on iOS.

On Android, other than blocking incoming text messages from the default messaging app, you can install third-party messaging apps that can block spam messages from multiple numbers without user interaction. On the other hand, the only way to block texts on iPhone is through the iMessage app. While iMessage does have SMS filtering, it is not very solid.

On top of that, besides text messages, the action also blocks incoming calls, emails, and FaceTime from that number. This creates a problem for those who just want to block someone from texting but want to keep receiving their calls.

With that out of the way, let’s look at how to block texts on iPhone.

How to block text messages on iPhone?

    1. Go to the iMessage app on your iPhone

    6. Go back to the Info panel to unblock the number.

If you only want to stop receiving message notifications from a particular number, you can toggle “Hide alerts” on the Info panel. While you will get a notification sound, there will be no message in the notification panel.

How to block text messages on Android?

Android phones from different manufacturers have a different user interface and their own default messaging app. The option to block spam messages on Android will depend upon the messaging app you are using.

We will show you how to block texts on Android on the Google Messages app . It is the default messaging app on Google Pixel devices and can be installed on nearly any Android device.

    1. Go to the Messages app
    2. Long press on the conversation that you want to block

How To Clone A Phone: Best Phone Clone Apps To Move Data

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / FossBytes · Wednesday, 10 February, 2021 - 08:34 · 6 minutes

    How to clone a phone

At some point, we all go to Google and search how to clone a phone. Whether you’re buying a new phone or carrying more than one phone, there are some phone clone apps you can use to keep your data on both devices.

    Why Copy My Data?

That’s one of the most common questions that comes to mind when setting up a new phone. You can always be more selective about which social media or streaming apps you want to keep.

However, you have to transfer contacts, photos, calendars, and reminders to your new phone. So instead of setting up from scratch, here are some apps to transfer everything from your old phone to your new phone.

Apps For Phone To Phone Data Transfer

    1. Google Tools

How to clone your phone- Google Drive representative image image: Google

If you’re using an Android phone, you’re probably using Google apps like Google Drive, Gmail, Google Contacts, Phone, Google Photos, and so on. So if you’re switching a phone or you want to clone a phone, Google Drive is a quick option that works with every Android phone out there. There are two ways to do phone to phone transfer using Drive.

Before we begin, you must have a Google account logged in on both the old and new phone. You can use this method to move data from Android to iPhone.

Transfer data locally from one phone to another

The first method requires you to have a cable. It can be a Type-C to Type-C or a micro USB to Type-C cable, depending on the ports on your old and new phone. When you turn on the new Android phone, tap on Start > select to copy apps and data from your old phone > connect both phones using the cable and follow the on-screen instructions .

This method will transfer nearly everything if you’re doing and Android to Android transfer. However, you might have to separately log into third-party apps like Facebook and Twitter again on the new device. Your passwords from Chrome and other Google apps will migrate to the new phone.

Using cloud backup on Google Drive

On your old phone, go to settings and find your Google account. In Google account settings, tap on backup > Back up now . This will backup essentials like contacts, calendars, reminders, photos, and videos to your Google Drive. When you set up a new phone, tap Start > No cable > Ok . Now follow the on-screen steps to select the backup you took from an Android or iPhone.

    2. Move To iOS

If you want to move data from Android to iPhone, this is your answer to how to clone a phone. To get started, download the Move to iOS app on your Android phone from the Play Store.

Now take the new iPhone while it is in setup mode. Look for the ‘ Apps & Data ‘ screen and tap Move Data from Android. On your Android device, open the Move to iOS app. Grant the necessary permissions and tap on Continue .

You’ll receive a six-digit code on your iPhone now. Enter this code on the Move to iOS app on your Android phone. In the next step, select the items you want to transfer and tap Next. Wait for the process to finish up and then you can continue to set up your new iOS device.

Please note that this method requires you to reset your iPhone in order to copy data.

How to move data from Android to iPhone after setup: You’ll have to manually transfer everything. I recommend you use the Google Drive method if you don’t want to wipe your iPhone to get the data from your Android phone.

    3. Phone To Phone Transfer Apps

Samsung smart switch representative image for how to clone a phone Image: Samsung

Almost all major manufacturers have their own phone clone apps for phone to phone transfers. To copy my data from one Samsung device to another, Samsung Smart Switch came in handy. Using Smart Switch is an easy method to clone your phone if you’re switching to a Samsung phone.

Similarly, you have the OnePlus Switch app, Xiaomi Mi Mover , Oppo Clone Phone , among others. Also, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi have joined hands to introduce a peer-to-peer transmission alliance . This means if you’re moving between any of these devices, it’ll be a breeze to clone your phone.

    4. Third-Party Phone Clone Apps

Aside from Google, Apple, and other manufacturers, several third-party apps can help you transfer your phone data. You can clone a phone using one of these apps if none of the above options work for you.

Xender and Zapya are cross-platform file sharing apps that you can use to transfer data between Android and iOS devices. You can use these apps to share videos and other media offline as well. Both Xender and Zapya have dedicated phone transfer functions that let you clone your contacts, SMS, photos, videos, and apps.

Another app you can use to backup your phone to your computer or clone it onto another phone is Dr.Fone. It is a paid tool and comes with added features like WhatsApp chat transfer, selective data restore; and repair iOS and Android bugs. You can check out the full pricing of different toolkits in Dr.Fone here.

If you want to clone an Android phone onto another Android phone, you can also use CLONEit. It is fast and transfers most of the data. However, some users have reported crashes and connection issues so I’d recommend you to use it only as a last resort.

The best part is that most of these apps have cross-platform compatibility so you can also move data from Android to iPhone after setup. One of the downsides is that they’re prone to connection problems among other bugs.

How To Clone A Phone: Roundup

You can clone a phone and move data from old phones to new ones. Transferring data and syncing phones makes it convenient to switch between devices and saves you the trouble of starting from scratch.

The methods of cloning described in the article are legal and safe to use on your phones. You can move music, photos, videos, contacts, messages, call logs, and almost everything else from one phone to another using these methods.

Things To Know About Phone Cloning

    1. How to check if my phone is cloned by someone?

If you're receiving prompts to restart your device, getting messages from the carrier that SIM has been updated, or stop receiving phones and text, it is likely that your phone is cloned. Another sign that your phone is cloned is if the Find My Device shows it in a different location.

    2. How to fix a cloned phone?

If your phone is cloned, contact your current service provider. While there is no sure-fire way to fix a cloned phone, you can set up a pin/password/biometric to safeguard your phone against it. I also recommend you to install apps from trusted sources only. It is so because apps from unknown sources can be malware or cloneware.

    3. How do I transfer everything from my old phone to my new phone?

You can transfer almost all your data from your old phone to your new one using any of the methods in this article. However, if you're migrating from Android to iOS, you may need to restore your apps manually.
