Tiny Life is an upcoming pixel-art take on experiences like The Sims

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Friday, 7 January - 13:07 · 1 minute

Tiny Life is an upcoming game trying to capture the essence of games like The Sims, but in an isometric pixelart style. If you've played The Sims before, you mostly know sort-of what to expect from it. Build a house, have a family and take care of all their needs - or totally mess with them. You're basically god watching over a few select people.

Tiny Life's creator, the solo indie developer Ellpeck, has always loved casual life simulation games like The Sims, Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley. For multiple years, he deemed the prospect of making a complex life simulation game similar to The Sims too difficult, until he started working on Tiny Life and realized that it is, indeed, quite the task. Nevertheless, he has been working on the game regularly for over a year and considers it his passion project.

Game Features:

  • Create your own characters with unique personalities and skills and dress them however you like
  • Build houses and community spaces like parks and cafés and watch households inhabit them
  • Control your household and tell your characters what to do, from cooking food to learning complex skills like programming and painting
  • Have your characters interact, build relationships, grow families and live unique lives
  • Share your creations with the community by exporting lots and households from your game
  • Create additional content through the game's built-in C# modding API

I have to admit I've not played The Sims since probably the second one released back in 2004. Some fond memories though, there's not much out there like it and so it's quite fun to see someone else do a take on it.

Want to try it out? There's a free Alpha on itch.io and you can wishlist on Steam .

Check out some fresh Haunted Chocolatier screenshots

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Friday, 7 January - 11:33

Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe (Eric Barone), we still don't yet know a huge amount about it but the dev recently showed some fresh screenshots. These are just some small teasers, with Barone mentioning on their Twitter to expect plenty more throughout 2022.

On December 25, Barone mentioned the game is "making good progress" and currently work is progressing on the "core elements of the game". We don't expect to get a lot of info before a true full reveal, as Barone mentioned "I don’t really feel like sharing much, because I’d rather let the game be a surprise than reveal everything. I just like working in secret".

The first shot shows off some ghosts in some sort of laboratory, conducting some of that sweet science.

Later on Twitter you can also see these two newer images (click to enlarge):

Cute Bee management game Hive Time sees a new trailer and free update

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 16 December - 12:11 · 1 minute

Celebrating two years since the release, the chilled-out Bee management game Hive Time has a new update out and there's also a new trailer with a few random quotes from people who enjoyed it. Developed by Cheeseness, who has contributed articles to GamingOnLinux in the past.

In Hive Time you're responsible for ensuring these vital creatures are well cared for. Harvest resources, grow your hive, and produce a new Queen before the current one dies. You need to manage different roles for bees, send out foragers, make various choices that affect how your play-through goes and there's even a wasp attack or two to deal with and maybe some outlaw slugs.

With this new update the focus was on "Defence and Foraging management", including a newly upgraded Map Room that gives a foraging priority slider to switch between more pollen or nectar making it all more useful for how you want to play. Sounds like deployment defender Bees is also a lot more simpler and less micromanagement needed.

There's also optimizations, an upgrade of the Godot Engine version used and more. You can read all about what's new in the update post .

Available free / pay what you want from itch.io . You also might own it if you previously picked up a bundle from itch.

Spiritfarer hits a million sales, Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition out now

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 15 December - 14:31 · 1 minute

Spiritfarer has not only hit over a million sales, it's been upgraded to the Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition free for everyone with new content. A "cozy management game about dying", it's easily one of the sweetest games released in 2020.

The Farewell Edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date, including the new Jackie and Daria Update, which has been added to the game today. Going off with a bang as the last update to the game it adds in a new island to explore, two new Spirits to befriend, a new event and more.

With it hitting a million sold, this has turned Spiritfarer into the most successful game for Thunder Lotus ever.

“All good things must come to an end,” said Spiritfarer Creative Director Nicolas Guérin in a prepared statement. “And Spiritfarer has been especially good for Thunder Lotus!  For our work to be welcomed into the lives of so many people is especially gratifying, particularly given how much heart we tried to invest in the game. It was a challenging project, but telling these stories truly helped us grow as developers. We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all our fans for their support and for helping us reach this special milestone!”

Perhaps now I've seen it all - have a dance and a fight in Sewer Rave

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 14 December - 12:21 · 1 minute

What do you get when you put together a sewer and a bunch of rats? Obviously a rave, plus a little fighting and lots of really weird stuff happening around you. Sewer Rave is out now. I feel like now, perhaps, I might just have "seen it all" when it comes to gaming.

"SEWER RAVE is a surreal randomized exploration game where you crawl around a rat infested sewer during a giant rave. Search the labyrinthine sewers to discover games, secrets, and wisdoms meant only for rodents. Grab a cup of sludge and meet some rats!"

The description of it even made me laugh. A game designed to confuse you and be as bizarre as possible. Are you really a rat, or are you actually human somehow inside of a rat? What exactly is going on and who let the snake in? Is that a bug or a feature? There's many questions and those questions lead to more questions.

Featuring plenty of weird characters to meet, there's various items to collect to make you question why you're collecting any of them and NPCs to trade with too. You will also do some platforming, fighting, play some mini-games and who knows what else you will find.

It also has Twitch integration.

Janky? Sure. Weird? Absolutely. Still, there's far worse you can buy on Steam for £2.89.

Available to buy on Steam .

The Jackie and Daria update for Spiritfarer lands December 13

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 7 December - 13:32 · 1 minute

The biggest update yet for the award-winning Spiritfarer lands on December 13, with plenty of new content. Spiritfarer is a casual thoughtful experience about being a ferrymaster for the deceased. You build up a boat, explore and care for various spirits before letting them go.

With the new update coming the developer said it is the biggest yet with a new island to explore, there's two new spirits to make friends with and a hospital to bring back from the brink. On top of that there's also some sort of new platforming event and new upgrades for your ferry.

"We’ve saved the best for last!" said Spiritfarer Creative Director Nicolas Guérin in a prepared statement. "The team was unanimous in their desire to make the game’s final update something special, and I feel they’ve really pulled out all the stops here. The Jackie and Daria Update is a lovely curtain call for Spiritfarer as well as a great show of gratitude to the fans who’ve supported us since the day we announced the project. We hope they enjoy taking one final voyage with us!"

The amusing Rain on Your Parade to get a DLC on December 15

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 7 December - 10:26

Rain on Your Parade is a little gem that released back in April, a game where you fly around as a little cloud and mess things up for everyone and now it's set for an expansion.

The unimaginatively named "Rain on Your Parade DLC: New Levels and Features!" will release on December 15, bringing with it a healthy dose of extra content. There will be new levels that are just as bizarre as the original set from helping a baby dragon to competing in a musical competition, new achievements, new cloudy powers, developer commentary, a development museum to see "first-hand just how AWFUL the game looked for the first half of development" and plenty of new gags to make you chuckle through it.
