Núñez and Haaland are the headline acts in Anfield’s cauldron of chaos

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Friday, 8 March - 20:00

Strikers are both enjoying fine seasons, but don’t expect every chance to be taken when Manchester City visit Liverpool

There will be smoke, noise and a sense of authentic event glamour. People will shout at a bus. The TV graphics will woosh and sparkle. In due course a skinny-legged man will perform high-speed tactical mime on the touchline, revolving both hands and yanking at invisible levers, as though reversing an imaginary submarine.

There will surely be goals too. Liverpool and Manchester City have mustered 50 between them in their past 14 games before their bravura meeting at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. But this also feels like a game that might just be marked by misses too, by shanks, muffs, scuffs, crossbar-wobbling hoicks. Chances will be taken. And in between, chances – Big Chances – will also be missed.

Haaland: I’m happy at Manchester City but ‘you never know what future brings’

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Tuesday, 5 March - 14:38

    • Prolific goalscorer keeps options open on future
    • Norwegian says he is surrounded by ‘amazing people’ at City

Erling Haaland says he is really happy at Manchester City but admitted “you never know what the future brings”.

The Norwegian joined City in summer 2022 and enjoyed a glittering first season, winning the treble and scoring 52 goals. Haaland is contracted until 2027 and is admired by Real Madrid, and the 23-year-old was asked if he sees himself at City long term.

Erling Haaland remains both solution and problem for Manchester City | Jonathan Wilson

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Saturday, 2 March - 20:00 · 1 minute

Pep Guardiola’s side were all about the process before they traded a prolific striker for an auxiliary midfielder

Manchester City have won 14 of their past 15 games which, given the general sense that they are not quite firing, says a lot about both their quality and expectations. Perhaps Tuesday’s 6-2 FA Cup victory at Luton was the beginning of an upturn; if it was, it is much needed before a March that will probably define their season. And if Erling Haaland’s five goals indicate that he is back in peak scoring form that will also be very welcome given the disorienting sense that City have become reliant upon him.

City’s run has been very odd. Those 15 games, starting after the draw with Crystal Palace in December, took in fixtures in the Club World Cup, the FA Cup and the first leg of the Champions League last 16 as well as nine Premier League games, none of them against sides that started the day in the top eight. Given Urawa Red Diamonds, Fluminense and FC Copenhagen probably wouldn’t make it into the top eight of the Premier League, it is a remarkably gentle run of fixtures in the middle of the season.

‘His body language was not good’: Pep Guardiola urges Haaland to be patient

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Monday, 12 February - 19:39

    • Manager wants City’s leading goalscorer ‘to be positive’
    • Manchester City in Denmark for Champions League first leg

Pep Guardiola has stated Erling Haaland’s body language in the first half of Manchester City’s win over Everton was “not good”, with the manager clear that the No 9 should still hold himself positively when not scoring.

Haaland failed to register before the break on Saturday before proving the champions’ matchwinner with strikes on 71 and 85 minutes. These were the 23-year-old’s first goals in a third game back following a foot injury that kept him out for two months.

      news.movim.eu / HuffingtonPost · Tuesday, 10 May, 2022 - 15:57 · 3 minutes
