Valve's Steam Deck developer event is open to all to watch today at 6PM UTC

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Friday, 12 November, 2021 - 08:31 · 2 minutes

Today (November 12) at 10am PST / 6PM UTC, Valve are hosting the Steamworks Virtual Conference: Steam Deck and you will actually be able to watch. As a reminder, the Steam Deck has been delayed .

Originally, the announcement made it seem like you had to be a registered Steamworks developer to attend. However, Valve has sent out an email to confirm that "anyone can watch the event, only those signed in with a Steamworks developer account can participate in the live Q&A and chat.

Going over the list these will be the subjects of the talks:

Development without a dev-kit (documentation they just put up )

"Designer Lawrence Yang outlines how developers can get their games running well on Steam Deck, even without a dev-kit to test with. From testing for compatibility with what you have laying around, to putting together a deconstructed Deck for all-in-one testing, he goes over several options and best-practices for getting ready for Steam Deck without a dev-kit."

Steam Deck Hardware (Overview)

"Steam Deck was built from the ground up for an optimal PC handheld gaming experience, and hardware engineer Yazan Aldehayyat shows how - and why- we made it the way we did. Even more importantly, he shows how those decisions allow for developers to bring all different kinds of games to Steam Deck as an optimal experience for players."

Steam on Deck

"We designed Steam Deck to give customers and developers the same Steam experience they've come to expect on any PC. Programmer Tom Bui and designer Tucker Spofford share how Steam features "just work" on Steam Deck, from Steam Community to the Steam Store and more. They'll also talk about some of the new Steam features made for Deck and crossing over to the desktop client as well."

Proton Support

"Programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais expands on Proton support, detailing the ways in which it makes Steam Deck compatible with Windows games, and sharing guidance on how to best avoid compatibility and performance issues."

APU Deep-dive with AMD

"Sebastien Nussbaum from AMD details the technology that powers Steam Deck's custom APU and goes over the options for graphics debugging and performance profiling available to developers."

Steam Input

"Steam Deck controls are a superset of XInput, so many developers won't need to do anything to get their game working on Deck. However, as programmer Scott Dalton shares, we've added powerful new controls to Steam Deck that some devs may find are even better options for their games."

Minecraft Live returns with more announcements on October 16

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 8 September, 2021 - 11:17

Minecraft Live is returning this year with a livestream going over the whole world of Minecraft on October 16. Much like the last event that ran in October last year, it's going to be filled with lots to look forward to.

Last year they officially announced the big Caves & Cliffs update during it, so we're expecting to see more announced this time. They said it will feature guests both new and familiar from Mojang, the community and "a surprise appearance or two". We will also get in-depth interviews, some "exciting reveals", a "nail-biting vote" (likely for a new mob to be added) and much more.

Season of Pride sales are live, ahead of a full month of livestreams in July

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 9 June, 2021 - 18:18 · 1 minute

Season of Pride, the new and more internationally inclusive name for Summer of Pride due to different hemispheres, has a few sales live right now with a lot of livestreams planned for July.

The main event will begin Thursday, July 1 through Saturday, July 31, 2021 with MidBoss presenting it on their Twitch Channel . Season of Pride will feature more than 65 queer Twitch streamers raising funds for life-changing LGBTQ+ charities Trans Lifeline, Trevor Project, and GaymerX in hopes of surpassing last year's $25,000 raised.

“Season of Pride brings together queer gamers from all over the world to celebrate the impact good LGBTQ+ representation in our hobby can have, be it on players looking to see themselves in games or through empathy to help normalize queer life,” said Cade Peterson, CEO of MidBoss. “The rebranding reflects the fact that June isn’t pride month all over the world, nor is it summer everywhere. We want all our gayming fellows to feel welcome at Season of Pride.”

Ahead of time though there's various sales going on across the likes of GOG and Steam with a pretty great selection, and lots of them offer Linux support too. Not all games are discounted though, as part of the point isn't just cheap games but to showcase them to potential new players.

Keep an eye on the website for the full schedule.

As a developer, MidBoss are currently working on Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER , the follow-up to 2064: Read Only Memories. Plus, they also teamed up with Kitsune Games on the upcoming Kitsune Tails .
