How To Remove Bloatware From Your Xiaomi Device (No Root Required)?

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Thursday, 4 March, 2021 - 19:05 · 4 minutes

Hidden settings for miui remove bloatware

X iaomi is rapidly taking over the smartphone world with its budget devices. Dominating the Indian and Chinese markets, the company manages to deliver low-priced smartphones coupled with specs of a flagship device.

To achieve such low prices, Xiaomi does a lot of cost cutting and tries to make profit in other areas such as targeting advertising (the absurd ads in the MIUI apps ), pushing users to use the pre-installed MIUI apps (Bloatware), and more.

If you are someone who is annoyed by the bloatware on Mi devices, here’s how to remove bloatware from MIUI devices.

What is Bloatware on Xiaomi Devices?

The term Bloatware is used for smartphone apps that are developed by the manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, HTC, etc and cannot be uninstalled through standard means.

Unless you root the device, which is a tedious task in itself, you cannot uninstall or disable the bloatware. Here, I have compiled a few methods through which you can finally get rid of MIUI apps that feed off your RAM without going through the rooting process.

How to Uninstall/Disable MIUI Apps in Xiaomi Devices Without Rooting?

    1. MIUI Hidden Settings

The Hidden Settings for MIUI app makes it easy for developers to perform formerly complex tasks in a few taps. For instance, you can access the Notification log, which was challenging to get into before.

The app has tabs for different Android versions including Android 7, Android 8, and Android 9. You can opt for any one of the Android versions, depending upon the MIUI version installed on your Xiaomi device. With the help of MIUI hidden features, you can get rid of some (not all) pre-installed apps (You can also uninstall the Google apps).

How to remove Xiaomi bloatware using MIUI Hidden Settings?

How to remove bloatware from Xiaomi MIUI
    1. Open the MIUI Hidden Settings app .
    2. Choose the Android version.
    3. Tap on the Manage Applications.
    4. Scroll over and tap on whichever app you want to remove from your device. How to remove bloatware in Redmi
    5. Tap on the “Disable” or “Uninstall” option.
    6. Then tap on the “Disable app” button in the pop-up.

This way you can uninstall several Mi apps, something that was previously impossible to do.

    2. ADB and Fastboot

Removing bloatware using ADB and Fastboot is a universal method and works pretty much with every Android powered device.

The catch is that it’s a bit technical. To pull it off, you either need to follow the steps accurately or know beforehand about ADB and Fastboot. I’d recommend you to try to follow the first option.

To uninstall the MIUI apps from your Xiaomi device or bloatware from any Android device , here’s what you need to do —

How to remove MIUI bloatware using ADB and Fastboot?

    Perquisites
    — ADB and Fastboot installed on your PC ( how-to )
    — USB debugging turned on ( how-to )
    — App Inspecter app ( link )

    1. Connect your Xiaomi device to the PC using the USB cable
    2. Open the Command prompt and type in: “adb devices” to check if the device is connected
    3. Enter the command: “adb shell”
    4. Find the package name of the system app using the App Inspector
    5. Enter the following command: “pm uninstall –k —user <name of the package>”

Through this method, you can easily remove bloatware from your MIUI device without root. You can use this method to remove Get apps from your Xiaomi device.

If you encounter any bugs or system crashes, you can just reset the phone, and the Xiaomi device will go back to normal.

Disable MIUI Ads on your Xioami device

Not just the bloatware, can also get rid of some of the ads that show across the MIUI software. Go to Settings > Aditional Settings > Authorization & Revocation.

Here, you need to revoke the authorization for MIUI System Ads (msa) that collects data for advertising. So, tap the toggle button next to msa and tap on Revoke on the pop-up that shows up.

Is it safe to remove Xiaomi Bloatware?

Well, that depends! First, Xiaomi itself recommends not to follow such practices, so going by that, it’s not safe at all. But then again, they are the main culprit, so let’s skip their warning for now.

Other than that, Xiaomi bloatware removal can also be achieved by rooting the phone. Now, this is, in fact, a tricky method unless you know your stuff. Failed rooting procedure can brick your phone.

It’s also the case that many users consider anything non-Google as bloatware, irrespective of the fact that those apps are good or bad. Sometimes, these apps offer a better experience than Google apps.

Finally, let’s talk about the above-mentioned methods. So far, I haven’t received any reports of issues occurring on the device, so if your device happens to come across a bug after performing these methods, do mention them in the comments below.

How To Get MIUI 12.5 Snow Mountain Live Wallaper On Any Android And Xiaomi Device?

Download MIUI 12 Snow mountain super live wallpaper

Last year, Xiaomi introduced us to Super Wallpapers, one of the biggest features of MIUI 12 , which are essentially high-precision 3D animated wallpapers.

Now, with another big update to its custom Android skin — MIUI 12.5 , Xiaomi has added two new Super Wallpapers — Mount Siguniang and Geometry Live.

I must say, the MIUI 12.5 Snow mountain live wallpaper is the most beautiful one out of all the Super wallpapers I have seen from Xiaomi.

As with the previous Super wallpapers, both new Xiaomi live wallpapers in MIUI 12.5 offer unique animation while unlocking the screen or swiping through pages on the homescreen.

The Geometry live wallpaper consists of shapes that move while interacting with the screen, however I am more fascinated by the Snow mountain Super wallpaper from Xiaomi. When unlocking, the wallpaper zooms out of the mountain peak. On top of that, the scenery color changes based on the time of the day.

Okay! Enough drooling over the MIUI 12 Super wallpaper, let’s see how you can get the two live wallpapers on your Android device:

How to get MIUI 12 Snow Mountain live wallpaper on any Android device?

The developer linuxct has gotten into the habit of porting the latest MIUI 12 live wallpapers to other Android devices. He began the journey by porting the MIUI 12 Super Wallpaper feature to other Android devices, which included Earth and Mars live wallpaper. Later, linuxct also ported the MIUI 12 Saturn super live wallpaper.

The developer has now come up with another Super wallpaper port, which includes two new wallpapers — Snow Mountain and Geometry.

Like the previous wallpaper ports, it’s pretty straightforward. First, download and install the Super Wallaper APK file on your Android device.

Below are the APK download links for each MIUI 12 live wallpaper —

    Snow Mountain Super Wallpaper
    Geometry Super Wallpaper (Dark version)
    Geometry Super Wallpaper (Bright version)

Once you have installed the wallpaper port of your choice, you can apply it using the default method that you use to apply live wallpapers. If the wallpaper doesn’t show in the stock wallpaper section, you can apply it using the Google Wallpapers app that is available on the Play Store.

If that doesn’t work as well, you can apply it using the Activity Launcher again available on the Play Store. Open the app and search for “Live wallpaper.” Tap on it — Choose the downloaded wallpaper — Apply.

It is important to note that the latest MIUI 12 Super Wallpaper port uses OpenGL code from the actual wallpaper. You will need a high-end device to make them run smoothly. Also, it is entirely possible that they might not run at all on certain smartphones.

How to get MIUI 12.5 Snow Mountain Live Wallaper On Any Xiaomi device?

If you own a Xiaomi device, there is a much easier way to get MIUI 12.5 Snow Mountain Super Wallpaper on device. Here’s what you need to do —

    1. Download the latest Alpha version of Wall paper app from APK Mirror.
    2. Open the Activity Launcher app (Play Store link)
    3. Run the activity titled, “Super Wallpaper”
    4. Choose the “Snowy Peaks” Super Wallpaper
    5. Tap on “Apply”

Note that this is a beta version of the MIUI Wallpaper app. You may see some performance issues after applying the wallpaper. Also, the app can be installed on any MIUI 12 device that supports the Super Wallpaper feature.
