    Police discovered three fatalities before cornering suspect who took hostages in a home in New Jersey

    Residents of a Philadelphia-area suburb were ordered to shelter in their homes temporarily after a series of connected shootings on Saturday morning prompted a manhunt and hostage situation.

    At about 8.50am local time, Falls township police were called to a home at Viewpoint Lane in Levittown, where two people had been shot dead. Minutes later, a second shooting was reported at Edgewood Lane, where a third person was killed.

    Seven bystanders were injured Wednesday in a shooting involving a Philadelphia city bus, authorities said, the fourth gunfire incident on the transit system in as many days.

    The latest shooting took place in the afternoon in a north-eastern neighborhood, said John Golden, a spokesperson for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or Septa.

    Deputy press secretary says protest at Goldie, owned by American Israeli chef Michael Solomonov, ‘completely unjustifiable’

    The White House has condemned events outside an Israeli-style falafel shop in Philadelphia that became the focus of marchers at a “Flood Philly for Gaza” rally who chanted, “You can’t hide, we charge you with genocide” on Sunday.

    It was “antisemitic and completely unjustifiable to target restaurants that serve Israeli food over disagreements with Israeli policy”, said the deputy press secretary, Andrew Bates.
