[Supporter] Discount Codes & Other Perks

    comics.movim.eu / RandoWis · Monday, 10 January - 12:33 · 1 minute

Hey there!

If you're seeing this message, it probably means you're using an RSS feeder or you've somehow managed to find the back-end message that protects supporter content.

No worries, though, if you'd like to see this post you'll either need to sign up for a subscription tier here ,

or if you're already supporting RandoWis, you might need to log in.

If you saw the old message, then I apologise as it mentioned a now-removed $1 tier .

It was meant as a placeholder that I forgot to delete and replace. Again, my apologies.

Nonetheless, thank you for your love and support!

Love you much much, and I hope you continue to enjoy RandoWis.

P.S For RSS users:

I have received feedback requesting a sort of categorised RSS feed, to prevent being notified of Supporter posts.

I sincerely appreciate your honesty in wanting to not receive a perk you didn't sign up for, however, the indie-website building industry is notorious for creating roadblocks and charging ridiculous amounts (sometimes reaching $100's/year) for the most basic solutions.

As you can tell where I'm going with this; in order to customise the RSS widget in any basic capacity (in this case, customising Categories) I'll have to pay a subscription fee (usually a recurring one) whose price depends on which publisher I picked and whether I picked their Bronze, Silver or Gold editions. Can you guess which edition has the customisability I need?

Here's a hint: it's never the cheaper ones.

With this in mind, I hope you understand why the RSS feed isn't categorised.

I'll try to find a compromise that prevents any sort of unwanted viewership, but in the meantime,

you have my gratitude for not wanting to snoop into what the Supporter's are seeing, even if it's just the post title.

Wilderness survival roguelike Wayward "Horizons" upgrade brings Volcanic islands

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 6 January - 14:55 · 3 minutes

Another major update has landed for the sweet top-down wilderness survival roguelike Wayward, bringing with it a whole new Volcanic island type and much more.

The game will also now load up several islands at a time, which helps with quicker travel and means players in multiplayer can actually be on different islands now - so it opens the game up a whole lot more. Have a look at the Horizons upgrade release trailer below:

New features highlight:

  • Added a new "islands" dialog, acting as a world map. It's unlocked when obtaining a sea-worthy vessel, which allows you to travel to inspect and travel to nearby islands.
  • You can now sail to any island within a certain distance, the travel time and cost dependant on the distance traveled.
  • Several islands can now be loaded at a time, allowing for quicker travel and allowing players in multiplayer games to be on different islands from each other.
  • Added a new "Seafaring" skill which increases travel distances, reduces hunger and thirst costs when traveling, and more.
  • Added a new "Volcanic" island type and biome with new resources, tiles, interactions, and creatures.
  • Added the ability to assign quickslots with tool-based actions (similar to "Carve with Tool" previously from the action menu). Alternatively, you can perform actions here by opening a new menu as well with "Shift + Q or Shift + Right Click". These actions will automatically pick the best tool for the given action.
  • Added ability to assign action menu actions to the quickslot bar.
  • A new item quality, "Relic", has been added. Relics have a high amount of magical properties, but have low starting durability and are dropped exclusively from aberrant creatures and treasure chests.
  • Added a "Rejoin as a new player" button to the death screen when dying in multiplayer games that have "clear ghost data on leave" option enabled.
  • Added a "Respawn in Casual Mode" button to the death screen when you die while in a permadeath mode so you can continue playing your save.
  • Merchant NPCs will now spawn and restock based on the number of buildings (walls/floors) constructed on an island, and will decrease in odds the further out you are from your starting island.
  • Added a couple of new craftable "scarecrows" that you can place down to prevent or reduce the likelihood of creatures spawning and/or movement around them (depending on the creature).
  • Added a new armor set of "armored scale" with unique properties/usefulness.
  • Added needles for all types of metal.
  • Added a pangolin creature to the new "Volcanic" island type.
  • Added mysterious and coveted "Dryad", a plant-like creature with unique properties and loot.
  • Added "Master of All" milestone and milestone modifier for getting all skills to 100%.
  • Added the "Traitor" milestone and milestone modifier.
  • Added a new form of grass called "Tanglehead", spread throughout the arid and volcanic islands types. Dirt will no longer be native to arid islands as a result.
  • Added a new magical property "Regeneration", which repairs/restores durability on items over time.
  • Added a new magical property, "Aptitude", which multiplies its effectiveness in crafts.
  • Added a new interaction with wisps.
  • The main menu buttons and tabs across all menus now have associated icons to improve UX.
  • Sailing to new islands now raises your cartography skill.
  • Starting at 40% cartography skill, the islands map and item tooltips now show which map items are associated with each island.
  • Introduced the concept of spores to mushrooms and ferns.
  • There are now non-tattered versions of shirts and pants that are available to craft.
  • Added an "Open Backups Folder" button to the save data section in the options menu.
  • You can now drag and drop save files onto the game to import them.
  • Added +dev command line switch to dedicated servers to enable developer mode.

You can grab Wayward on Humble Store and Steam .

Play some socially-distanced tabletop games with a new FoundryVTT release

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 23 December, 2021 - 10:05 · 1 minute

FoundryVTT version 9 has been released, further improving many big parts of this excellent cross-platform virtual tabletop experience and it's looking awesome. Allowing you to play many wildly different game packs, with lots of officially licensed games from various developers, virtual-tabletopping is in a really good place right now.

One of the major new features of this release is support for card games, as it now has mechanics hooked up for handling Card Decks, Card Hands and Card Piles. This was of course done in a system-agnostic way, allowing game developers to make full use of it for whatever they need:

Version 9 brings support for card games to Foundry VTT. We have implemented a system-agnostic method for handling Card Decks, Card Hands, and Card Piles which can be assigned to users in your game. The Cards system brings with it everything you need to play a functional (if rudimentary) card game using the FVTT UI. More importantly, Card Support empowers game system and module developers to build upon it and offer support for a variety of card games. Card decks, hands, and piles can be created from the Cards sidebar and include support for most of the common operations a card game might require: dealing, shuffling, playing or passing cards amongst your players. We also took the time to prepare and package two default playing card decks, including custom card art for both a dark theme and a light theme.

There's also a bunch of new lighting animation types available to spice up your boards, performance improvements with new modes to pick from to help lower-end machines, a new keybinds system to further make it your own, various upgrades to the UI and audio improvements with new drag and drop features.

At $50 (plus VAT), it may seem a little on the pricey side perhaps but what it offers is quite phenomenal, especially since only the host needs to own it. Also pretty sweet that it's built on Linux — for Linux, as the developer noted before.

Alpha 20 goes live for survival game 7 Days to Die

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 21 December, 2021 - 23:23 · 1 minute

The Fun Pimps have promoted Alpha 20 of 7 Days to Die to the stable release builds making in the new official update and it's a big one again. Players are clearly enjoying it, with it still remaining at a higher player count than it had been seeing months prior to the experimental version.

11405376301640128884gol1.jpg Hard to believe this is the same game I funded on Kickstarter back in 2013. It sure has come a long way, both in terms of game mechanics and graphics. Still quite some ways to go on the optimization though, it's still real heavy.

Some of what's new in Alpha 20 includes:

  • A brand-new version of Random Gen World creation with new cities, city tiles and a part system spawner. You will be blown away by it!
  • Over 200 new POI’s and updates to many of the older POI’s. Over 550 Explorable locations total
  • Navezgane has many city improvements, terrain improvements and new rural and wilderness communities
  • Nearly 25 new HD characters with a couple with improved shaders
  • 6 New weapons and 13 HD remakes with the addition of new primitive pipe weapons
  • Overhauled shape menu with hundreds of new shapes organized and buildable from a simple frame with in-game, creative and level design support
  • Block Placement Improvements
  • We have added a Robotic Drone Companion to carry your extra gear, heal you and more
  • Dynamic Imposter System renders accurate changes to POI’s and player bases at far distances
  • Rendering improvements with 100s of new PBR models
  • Quest Improvements including new restore power night Quests
  • AI Enemy Improvements including city spawning, ducking, obstacle attacks, head tracking and burst attacks.
  • Feral Sense Game options for a completely new game experience
  • Vehicle Improvements with coop passenger support and mods to improve and customize your Vehicles

The developer also mentioned recently that they plan to start removing older versions of the game, a bunch of which are available as opt-in Betas. They said it's due to limitations with Steam, so if you do have a game on the 19.x series you might want to make it go out with a bang.

You can pick it up on Humble Store and Steam . Full Alpha 20 release notes here .

Cute Bee management game Hive Time sees a new trailer and free update

    news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 16 December, 2021 - 12:11 · 1 minute

Celebrating two years since the release, the chilled-out Bee management game Hive Time has a new update out and there's also a new trailer with a few random quotes from people who enjoyed it. Developed by Cheeseness, who has contributed articles to GamingOnLinux in the past.

In Hive Time you're responsible for ensuring these vital creatures are well cared for. Harvest resources, grow your hive, and produce a new Queen before the current one dies. You need to manage different roles for bees, send out foragers, make various choices that affect how your play-through goes and there's even a wasp attack or two to deal with and maybe some outlaw slugs.

With this new update the focus was on "Defence and Foraging management", including a newly upgraded Map Room that gives a foraging priority slider to switch between more pollen or nectar making it all more useful for how you want to play. Sounds like deployment defender Bees is also a lot more simpler and less micromanagement needed.

There's also optimizations, an upgrade of the Godot Engine version used and more. You can read all about what's new in the update post .

Available free / pay what you want from itch.io . You also might own it if you previously picked up a bundle from itch.
