You Can Score 35GB of Mobile Data for Just $15 Right Now

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Friday, 19 February, 2021 - 05:22 · 1 minute

Want a solid mobile data recharge for cheap? Amaysim – who are powered by the Optus 4G Plus Network – are currently offering a half-off deal on its 35GB prepaid plan.

With this discount offer, you’ll only have to pay $15 per recharge for the first three recharges you make with Amaysim. A recharge for the 35GB Amaysim plan would normally cost $30, so with this half-off deal you can save $45 over those first three recharges.

An Amaysim recharge lasts 28 days, so as long as you don’t hit your data cap, you can get close to three months of discounted prepaid data. And since it’s a prepaid plan, that means you won’t be locked into any contracts so you’re free to go elsewhere once the discounted recharges finish.

This offer is available until February 28.

How do Amaysim’s prepaid plans compare to other mobile plans?

For $15, Amaysim’s 35GB prepaid plan is great value for money.

Most mobile plans sit in the $35 range, and can net you between 35GB to 50GB of data. If you desperately need as much data as you can possibly get, you might be best grabbing Circles.Life’s 50GB data plan for $22 per month.

Amaysim isn’t the only telco that has slashed 50% off of its prepaid plans. Earlier this week iiNet released a half off deal across all of its prepaid plans , which means you can score 25GB of data for only $15.

In terms of value, that’s not as good as Amaysim’s discount – but if you’re someone who only needs a small amount of data each recharge and aren’t too keen on paying for the extra you aren’t using, iiNet’s plans are worth looking into.

You can see how Amaysim’s prepaid offers compares with other mobile plans within the 35GB data range.

Nab a Mobile Plan for under $30 per Month with These New Deals

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Thursday, 18 February, 2021 - 05:10 · 2 minutes

If you’re looking for a new phone plan, it makes sense to try and bag a bargain. After all, there’s always a telco or five slinging some sort of deal. If you can help it, why pay full price? With that in mind, here are five of our favourite mobile deals you can get in Australia right now.

    Telstra phone plans

Telstra is offering a $480 discount on the newly released Galaxy S21 Ultra, which works out to be a $20 per month saving on a 24-month plan. Plans start at $112 per month with 40GB, but Telstra is also offering a $50 per month discount on its 180GB plan for your first 12 months. This means you’ll pay $122 per month for your first year, and then $172 per month thereafter. Of course, since the plans are contract-free you can always drop down to a more affordable Telstra plan after the discount runs out. This offer runs until February 21.

    gomo phone plans

How does only paying $60 for six months of mobile service sound? If you sign up with gomo before February 21 (and activate your SIM before February 28) you’ll get your first month for just $10. You’ll pay $25 per month for your second two months, and then you’ll get your next three months free. Better yet, you’ll have 18GB each month to play with, and since the plan is prepaid, you can leave at any time.

gomo is a new MVNO owned by Optus and powered by the Optus 4G network.

    amaysim phone plans

amaysim is currently offering bonus data and a discount on your first three prepaid renewals. Instead of paying $30 for 30GB, you can get 35GB for $15. amaysim’s prepaid plans have a 28-day expiry. If you want to stick with amaysim after your first three recharges, you’ll go back to paying $30 for 30GB, but you can always love ’em and leave ’em.

amaysim is powered by the Optus network.

    iiNet phone plans

Most of us associate iiNet with broadband, but the telco also offers mobile plans powered by the Vodafone network. It’s currently offering 50% off the entire range, but the standout offer is the 14GB plan. Instead of paying $24.99 per month, you’ll pay just $12.50 per month for your first six months. Spending this little on a phone plan typically only gets you a couple of gigs, so having 14GB to play with is a nice bonus.

Once again, this plan is contract-free, so you’re free to bail whenevs.

    Vodafone phone plans

If you’re looking for a big data SIM-only plan, Vodafone is hard to beat: $35 per month will get you 50GB. Just be aware that this pricing will only last for your first year with Vodafone, after which you’ll pay $40 per month. Since the plan is contract-free, there’s no issue with leaving when the discount runs out, however. Better yet, you’ll also get three months of free access to Amazon Prime – valued at $6.99 per month.

If you’re between 18 and 25, and you can save a further 10% off plan fees for your first year, bringing it down to $31.50 per month.

Optus Now Has NBN Plans With Boosted Wifi to Cover Your Whole House

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Monday, 15 February, 2021 - 01:19 · 2 minutes

With so many people working from home, the need for a consistent internet connection is essential. However, as some have discovered, their current internet set up may not be as strong as they once thought – especially if there are multiple people under the one roof, all fighting to maintain a consistent latency. To help everyone in your household stay online, Optus has recently rolled out a series of “all-in-one” NBN bundles that have been specifically designed to provide families and large households with strong and reliable internet.

These Optus bundles are available for the NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans, which have typical evening speeds of 45Mbps, and 90Mpbs, respectively.

To help maintain these speeds throughout your home, these Optus plans also come bundled with an Ultra WiFi modem (with 4G backup) and a new Ultra WiFi Booster, which will help make sure the internet signal can reach every corner of your home.

While these plans are advertised with families in mind, if you’re currently living in a share house this increased connectivity could be beneficial. Especially if your house’s WiFi is getting a frequent work out because majority of your room mates are working from home.

These plans also come with a Fetch Mini with a three month free upgrade to 45+ channel Ultimate Pack, along with an Optus Sports subscription at no extra charge. Both NBN plans are contract free, so you can leave anytime you want.

The NBN 50 plan will set you back $79 per month for the first 12 months you’re with Optus, before bumping up to $85 per month after the discount period ends. The NBN 100 plan also has a similar discount offer – it’ll cost you $99 per month for the first 12 months, and then $105 per month thereafter.

You’ll also have to pay an additional $99 up front for both plans to cover the cost of the modem and WiFi booster.

Both of these offers are available until April 4, so you have a bit of time to mull it over. But if your current internet set up is straining under its current requirements for work and leisure, giving it an extra boost with these Optus plans could be the solution you need.

You Can Save $600 on Telstra’s Extra Large Plan

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Friday, 12 February, 2021 - 05:46 · 1 minute

If you’re someone who needs a lot of phone data every month and loves a good bargain, does Telstra have a deal for you.

The telco has slashed an impressive $50 per month off of its Extra Large plan. That means you can get a huge 180GB of data for only $65 per month, instead of the usual $115.

This is one of the best mobile deals that Telstra have offered recently, and a great way to get yourself a lot of data while saving yourself a bit of cash.

This discount period lasts for the first 12 months you’re with Telstra, after which it will jump back up to the full monthly bill. You’ll save yourself $600, all up. This plan is also contract free so you can swap to a different Telstra plan or give it the flick once the discount is over.

This offer is available until March 1, and you can check out the more nitty gritty details for it below:

It probably goes without saying that 180GB data a month for $65 is an impressive deal. When compared to other plans within the same price range the Extra Large plan offers 80GB to 120GB more data.

This Telstra mobile deal is only bested by Vodafone and Optus which are both offering 500GB of data for $60/month and $65/month, respectively.

If you’re happy with your current handset, you’re able to pick up this deal as a SIM only plan. If you’re also in the market for a new phone, you’re also able to pair it with a new handset. You’re able to swap this plan for a less expensive one once the 12 month discount period ends.

The Best NBN 100 Plans on Offer Right Now

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Wednesday, 10 February, 2021 - 22:00 · 4 minutes

If you’re after an NBN 100 plan but still want to save a bit of cash, you’re in luck. There’s a whole host of providers currently offering discounts on their fastest widely available plans.

Most of these take the form of a timed offer – you’ll pay a reduced rate for your first six months and get bumped up to the full price thereafter – but there are other options around too.

With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the best NBN 100 deals available .

SpinTel currently has one of the cheapest NBN 100 deals around, where you’ll pay just $74 per month for your first six months. You’ll pay $84.95 per month thereafter, but that’s still very reasonable for an NBN 100 plan. Most are billed at about $90 per month. Of course, the plan is contract-free so you’re free to leave whenever and get a deal from one of these other providers.

SpinTel does however also have speed going for it. It now reports typical evening speeds of 90Mbps, which puts it in the upper echelon of providers when it comes to peak hour performance on NBN 100 plans.

Tangerine has a pretty similar deal. You’ll pay $74.90 per month for your first six months, and $89.90 per month thereafter. Once again, the plan is contract-free, but Tangerine also compounds this with a 14-day risk-free trial. If you find yourself unhappy during your first two weeks, you can leave and get your plan fees refunded. You won’t be able to get a refund for your modem if you purchase one through Tangerine, but it will work with any other NBN provider.

Tangerine’s evening speeds are a hair slower than what you’ll get on SpinTel, reporting 83Mbps on NBN 100 plans. This deal is available until February 28.

Superloop is once again hair more expensive, charging $74.95 per month for your first six months, and $89.95 per month thereafter. In both cases, that’s only 5 cents more per month than Tangerine. Superloop does however report faster evening speeds, measuring in at 90Mbps during busy periods. Superloop’s deal runs until the end of July.

TPG recently upped its NBN 100 plan evening speeds to 95Mbps, making it the third fastest provider around, tied with stablemate iiNet. Better yet, TPG has its own discount offer. You’ll pay $79.99 for your first six months, and $89.99 per month thereafter. You’ll need to commit to a six-month contract to get this one, but you’re still free to leave as soon as your discount expires.

Aussie Broadband also upped its NBN 100 evening speeds recently and is now reporting an impressive 99Mbps. That puts it in second place, 1Mbps behind Telstra’s claim of 100Mbps. Aussie is offering $10 per month off for your first six months with the promo code FAST10. This means you’ll pay $89 per month initially and $99 per month thereafter. Aussie Broadband’s plans are contract-free.

Vodafone has a similar offer going. You’ll save $10 per month on your first six months, bringing your bill down to $85 per month. That becomes $95 per month thereafter. While that’s a little bit pricier than most NBN providers, you can bring down your bill by bundling with other Vodafone services.

Vodafone will slash 5% off your total bill for every postpaid plan you have on your account after the first, up to a maximum of 20%. For example, bundling a Vodafone NBN plan with two Vodafone phone plans would cut 10% from your bill. Tablet and mobile plans are also eligible for discount bundles.

Vodafone’s NBN plans are contract-free. However, if you take up Vodafone’s optional modem, you’ll need to pay out the remaining value if you leave in your first 36 months. This is equivalent to $5 per month left in your three-year term.

MATE will also reward loyalty with cheaper prices. You’d normally pay $79 per month for a MATE NBN 100 plan, but you can shave $10 per month by also taking up one of the company’s SIM-only plans. MATE mobile plans are powered by the Telstra network, and start at $20 per month for 5GB. The $25 per month option with 18GB is a better pick, however. Once again, MATE’s NBN plans are contract-free.

Dodo has a bundle offer of its own. As it stands, you can save $10 per month on its NBN 100 plan for your first six months. This means you’ll pay $75 per month for your first six months and $85 per month thereafter. You can also save a further $10 per month for the length of your plan if you also switch your gas and energy to Dodo. Just be aware that you’ll need to commit to a 12-month term to get this deal, or pay a $120 upfront modem fee.

Affordable NBN Plans That Cost Less Than $60 a Month

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / LifehackerAustralia · Wednesday, 3 February, 2021 - 22:09 · 4 minutes

Entry-level NBN plans aren’t as common as they used to be, with many providers focusing on pricier products with high speeds and unlimited data. These plans aren’t for everyone. Not everyone wants or needs an expensive NBN plan, of course.

What if you just want to binge a little Netflix without paying for more than it feels like you’re using? What if you don’t have the need for speed? Fortunately, there are still plenty of options if you’re looking for a cheaper NBN plan. Here’s a look at what less than $60 per month will get you.

    NBN 25 plans under $60

If you’re after a more affordable NBN plan, you may need to make some trade-offs. You’ll typically need to sacrifice your download speed or your data allowance, which is why we’re starting with NBN 25 plans. They’re the easiest way to get an NBN plan under $60.

Tangerine has one of the cheapest unlimited NBN 25 plans around right now. You’ll pay $44.90 per month for your first six months, and then $59.90 per month thereafter. The plan is contract-free so you can leave whenever, and it also comes with a 14-day risk-free trial. If you’re not happy within your first fortnight, Tangerine will give you a full refund of your plan fees. Tangerine’s discount is available until February 28.

SpinTel has a similar deal where you’ll pay $49 per month for your first six months, and then $59.95. This gets you a NBN 25 plan with unlimited data. If you want to stick to a sub-$50 price point after your discount expires, SpinTel also has a 100GB NBN 25 plan for $49.95 per month if you can make do with a smaller allowance.

Superloop is also offering a discount on NBN 25 plans, where you’ll pay $54.95 for your first six months and $59.95 per month thereafter. This deal is available until July 31.

MATE and MyRepublic both have unlimited data NBN 25 plans for under $60 per month that aren’t subject to promotional pricing. The pair of plans are priced at $59 per month, with MATE reporting slightly faster typical evening speeds.

If you go with MATE, you can save a further $10 per month by also picking up one of the telco’s SIM-only plans for your phone. MATE’s mobile plans are powered by the Telstra network and start at $20 per month with 5GB. The $25 per month plan with 18GB is a much better deal, however.

If bundling is your jam, you may want to consider Vodafone. Vodafone is currently offering an unlimited NBN 25 plan for $55 per month for your first six months and then $65 per month thereafter. While that’s a little bit pricier, Vodafone offers a 5% discount on your total monthly bill for every additional postpaid service on your account, up to a maximum of 20% if you have five services. This includes mobile, mobile broadband, and tablet plans.

    NBN 50 plans under $60

Your options become a little more limited if you’re looking for a NBN 50 plan under $60 per month.

Tangerine is one of the cheapest options under $60 per month thanks to a promotional discount. You’ll pay $54.90 per month for your first six months, and $69.90 per month thereafter. Once again, the plan is contract-free, so you can always leave when the discount runs out.

Belong has an unlimited data NBN 50 plan for $55 per month, however there’s a catch. While it’s technically an NBN 50 plan, speeds are capped to 30Mbps. That’s a little bit better than NBN 25, but a good much slower than an NBN 50 plan – even during peak hours.

You’ll need to sign a 12-month contract to get this one, but Belong will throw in $80 of mobile credit to use if you also feel like changing phone plans. If you’d prefer to go contract-free, you can pay $60 per month instead. You’ll also need to pay a $60 modem fee.

There are also a whole host of other providers with promotional discounts that bring their plans in under $60 per month for your initial six-month period.

SpinTel is the cheapest at full price, offering $59 per month for your first six months and $64.95 per month thereafter. Superloop follows with $59.95 per month for your first six months and $69.95 per month thereafter. And Internode is the most expensive at full price, charging $59.99 per month for your first six months, and $79.99 per month thereafter.

In every case, you’re able to leave as soon as your discount runs out – Internode does make you stay for the entire initial six-month period, however. And of course, when can always swap to another discounted provider as soon as your introductory pricing expires.

Dodo also has its own promotional discount: you’ll pay $60 per month for your first six months, and $70 per month thereafter. However, Dodo will cut a further $10 from your bill if you bundle your NBN with its gas and energy.
