Everton pile misery on Burnley as old boy Michael Keane caps off win

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Saturday, 16 December - 19:33

Turf Moor has witnessed this template of victory by a Sean Dyche team dozens of times but unfortunately for Burnley he is not their manager any more. Everton were organised, physically dominant and enjoyed goals from players well over 6ft tall to secure a fourth straight victory without conceding. It puts them seven points clear of the relegation zone, despite their 10-point deduction.

Amadou Onana and Michael Keane settled the result on a night of nostalgia for Burnley fans, but it was never in doubt as Everton provided 90 minutes of knowhow and effective football, while Burnley’s naivety was laid bare by the man with a pub named after him around the corner.

Bruno Fernandes stunner gives Manchester United victory at Burnley

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Saturday, 23 September, 2023 - 21:05

Bruno Fernandes’s star quality: only this saved Manchester United from a fourth consecutive defeat as their patchy early season form continued.

In this slump United have been shapeless, directionless, injury-plagued and forgetful of how to win. Not since Erik ten Hag’s misfiring unit reversed a 2-0 deficit to overcome Nottingham Forest 3-2 in late August have three points been theirs.

Erik ten Hag doesn’t like surprises, but he has sprung a few tonight. Evans starting, Eriksen dropped, Mejbri starting, McTominay recalled. If Eriksen is being punished for failing to shield the defence in Munich, McTominay seems to be being forgiven for the same offence. He, or Casemiro, may well give way to Sofyan Amrabat after an hour.

Luton picked up their first point, against Wolves. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick for Bayern, plus two assists. Man City showed that they can keep a clean sheet even when they play half the game with ten men.

Nottingham Forest and VAR deny Burnley win after Hudson-Odoi stunner

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian · Monday, 18 September, 2023 - 21:03

Burnley may have registered their first point of the season with this draw at Nottingham Forest to avoid the ignominy of a fourth straight league defeat but they will feel aggrieved at not claiming victory after Lyle Foster’s second-half strike was controversially ruled out. To compound things, in second-half stoppage time, Foster was sent off for elbowing Ryan Yates.

The Burnley substitute Sander Berge was deemed to have used his forearm to control the ball before Foster converted from the edge of the six-yard box. In the end Callum Hudson-Odoi’s magnificent debut strike earned a point after Zeki Amdouni opened the scoring with a wonderful effort of his own.

Premier League: 10 things to look out for this weekend

      pubsub.dcentralisedmedia.com / TheGuardian-Australia · Friday, 5 February, 2021 - 00:01

Jesse Lingard can improve West Ham, Ralph Hasenhüttl must regroup again, and Pep Guardiola should resist overthinking

Pep Guardiola may be a tactical genius, but as Spinal Tap’s guitarist once said: “It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.” The Manchester City manager has proven as much with his tendency to overcomplicate things in big matches. Few know this better than Jürgen Klopp, whose Liverpool team have more than once been grateful beneficiaries of Guardiola’s needlessly intricate one-off gameplans. There is no call for such complexity on Sunday. City head to Anfield having won 13 games in a row in all competitions, while their opponents have won three of their past 10, lost two on the bounce at home and kept one clean sheet this year. The Anfield crowd, which has in recent years fuelled early blitzkriegs against City, will be absent. Guardiola’s main task may be psychological rather than tactical: to ensure his players take to the pitch with the same freedom of the past two months. Or to put it in plain terms, to avoid messing with a winning formula. AH
