This Is Why Kia EV6 Electric Car Has An Edge Over Hyundai Ioniq 5

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Thursday, 1 April, 2021 - 12:19 · 4 minutes

    Kia EV6 electric car SUV

A couple of weeks ago, the South Korean automaker Kia Motors teased its new electric car, the Kia EV6. Unlike its sibling, Kia Niro EV, the EV6 is the first electric car to use a dedicated electric-global modular platform (E-GMP).

It’s the same platform that underpins its cousin Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV . As Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5 are built on the same E-GMP platform, we expected them to have similar specs.

However, as Kia reveals more details about crossover SUV Kia EV6, it seems it has a slight edge over Ioniq 5.

Now, without any further ado, let’s get straight to why we think EV6 stands a bit taller than its cousin.

Is Kia EV6 Electric Car Better Than Hyundai Ioniq 5?

    Kia-EV6-GT-line-1-1 Image: Kia Motors

Kia EV6 Battery Pack And Range

Kia EV6 will be available in two battery configurations: a 58 kWh battery and a bigger one with a 77.4 kWh pack.

With a bigger battery pack, it’ll be able to deliver an electric range of up to 510 km (317 miles). However, this range is according to the WLTP cycle and upon calculating it as per EPA standards, it’ll be somewhere around 300 miles.

Still, the figure is better than its cousin Ioniq 5 which offers up to 480 km (298 miles) as per the WLTP cycle.

    Better Variants

Based on the two battery packs, they’ll be available in multiple configurations.

There will be a standard variant with a single motor and RWD configuration and a high-end variant with AWD configuration. Both of these options will be offered with a smaller as well as bigger battery pack.

In addition, there’ll be GT and GT-line variants with small visual tweaks like yellow brake calipers and high-performance tuning.

The GT variant is a new concept in Kia EV6 which misses out on Hyundai Ioniq.

    Performance

    Kia-EV6-electric-car Image: Kia Motors

Since there are multiple variants, there are different power outputs. For instance, the base variant with a single RWD motor and a 58 kWh battery pack produces about 168 HP. Meanwhile, the long-range variant with a bigger battery module and AWD configuration generates about 321 HP.

In contrast, the top end variant of Hyundai Ioniq makes around 301 HP and 605 Nm of torque.

On the other hand, the GT variant of the Kia EV6 is completely out of the league electric car. It has the ability to generate an output of up to 577 HP and 740 Nm of torque.

Furthermore, it accelerates real quick and takes only 3.5 seconds to reach 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph).

    Impressive Towing Capacity

    Kia-EV6-new-electric-car-towing-capacity Image: Kia Motors

Kia EV6 offers a maximum towing capacity of 1600 kg (3527 lbs) which is quite impressive considering that it’s a compact crossover SUV.

Before we move ahead, here’s a quick recap of the parameters where the electric car Kia EV6 leads its cousin Ioniq 5 EV.

Kia EV6 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV
Max. Electric Range 510 km (316 miles) 480 km (298 miles)
    Acceleration (0 to 100 km/h)/ (0 to 60 mph) 3.5 seconds 5.2 seconds
Max. Power Output 577 HP and 740 Nm Torque 301 HP and 605 Nm Torque
    GT Variant Available Yes No
    Towing Capacity 1600 Kg N/A

    Kia EV6 Best Features

Kia EV6 electric interior Image: Kia Motors

Well, in terms of features, there isn’t any noticeable difference between the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV.

Similar to Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 is also equipped with features like the Vehicle To Load (V2L) function, an 800 V high-speed multi-charge system, Augmented Reality (AR) head-up display, similar curved dashboard displays, and much more.

However, there are changes in the interior design and outer appearance of course.

If we discuss the design details then the most significant change one would notice is the new logo of the automaker. Unlike the old logo, the new one isn’t encased in an oval shape frame. Instead, it’s designed with the company’s name written in beautiful calligraphy which looks refreshing.

However, we believe this new logo is designed specifically for its the upcoming EVs based on its new E-GMP platform.

    Price And Launch Date

Kia EV6 electric car price Image: Kia Motors

As of now, the automaker has not made any announcements regarding the price or launch date of the Kia EV6. However, considering the specs, we believe it’ll fall somewhere between $40,000 to $50,000. Its price will be quite close to Tesla Model Y.

Furthermore, the GT variant will be priced quite higher and will fall under the prime segment.

Speaking of the launch date, it’ll arrive in the market either in late 2021 or early 2022.

Kia EV6 Expected Price If It Comes To India

Looking at the popularity of Kia’s vehicles in India, it would not be a bad decision to introduce its electric cars in the country as well.

However, the EV infrastructure and charging network in India is still under the initial phase of development. This is the biggest hurdle in the acceleration of EV adoption in India.

After evaluating these factors, we believe it would take a couple of years for it to arrive on the shores of India. Hence, it would be too soon to expect the price of the Kia EV6 in India.

    Final Thoughts

Keeping aside the GT variant, the specs of both these electric cars are almost similar. Still, if we closely compare then although, with a small margin, Kia EV6 leads in most of the crucial parameters.

However, the same EV technology has been incorporated in both cars, therefore, there’ll be a similar riding experience.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Share your views in the comments section below.

This Odd Electric Car Is Real And It’s Quicker Than Tesla Roadster

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Friday, 26 March, 2021 - 10:56 · 3 minutes

Daymak Spiritus_ a quicker electric car than tesla roadster

A Canada-based EV maker, Daymak, has announced a three-wheel electric car ‘Daymak Spiritus’ which claims to be quicker than Tesla Roadster.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in the blink of an eye in just 1.8 seconds whereas Tesla Roadster lags behind by 0.1 seconds. With this breathtaking acceleration, it’ll be one of the quickest electric cars in the world.

As electric vehicle technology is evolving, automakers are experimenting and exploring diverse areas. Lately, we have seen an increasing interest of EV makers in three-wheel electric cars.

Last month, we told you about a similar concept car ‘ Aptera ‘ that was claimed to have twice the range of the Tesla Model S.

Anyway, coming back to Daymak Spiritus, let’s explore this electric car a bit more.

Daymak Spiritus: A Electric Car Quicker Than Tesla Roadster

quicker electric car than tesla roadster and model s Image: Daymak

As you know, Daymak Spiritus is a three-wheel electric car with a seating capacity of two passengers. It’s a fully loaded electric car with features like optional autonomous driving technology, solar power, superfast charging, and much more.

It’s available in two options: Spiritus Deluxe and Spiritus Ultimate. The Spiritus Deluxe is the base model and is offered at an affordable price range of $19,995 whereas the Spiritus is an extremely high-performance variant and comes with a price tag of $149,000.

    Performance

The base variant Spiritus Deluxe is capable of producing 100 BHP. With this power, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 85 mph.

On the other hand, the high-performance Spiritus Ultimate could churn out more than 197 BHP. In addition, it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.8 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. With this claimed top speed, it’ll also be the fastest three-wheeler electric car in the world.

    Battery And Electric Range

When we talk about the battery pack and electric range, Spiritus Deluxe is equipped with a smaller 36 kWh battery pack. Whereas the Spiritus Ultimate is powered by a bigger 80 kWh battery pack which is almost the same size as that of the Tesla Model 3.

Speaking of the electric range, Deluxe can deliver up to 180 miles whereas the Ultimate can go longer distances of up to 300 miles.

    Design And Dimensions

Daymak Spiritus_ a quicker electric car than tesla roadster and model s Image: Daymak
    Dimensions
    Length 3850 mm
    Width 2010 mm
    Height 1275 mm
    Wheelbase 2667 mm

Daymak Spiritus is an odd yet fancy-looking electric car. The front profile of the electric car looks like a conventional car. However, it’s the rear profile that distinguishes it from others and gives it a refreshing look.

It seems the rear profile is inspired by batmobile or something.

Apart from this, the weight of Spiritus varies from 350 to 370 lbs. Considering the tag of an electric car it’s very lightweight. Its lightweight design is also one of the major reasons for its incredible acceleration.

Also, it’s a bit hard to believe that after being loaded with an 80 kWh battery pack, the weight is only 350 lbs.

It sounds more like an electric bike instead of a car as Tesla Model S weighs around 4600 lbs which is more than 10 times the weight of this Spiritus.

    Launch Date

According to the automaker , the deliveries of Spiritus will start sometime in 2023.

    Final Thoughts

Daymak Spiritus isn’t anything like a conventional electric car. It’s not a practical car and offers limited space. Being a three-wheeled electric car, it’ll attract only a specific group of people.

However, if we imagine it as a four-wheeled electric car, then its specifications are quite impressive. The acceleration of this car is quite remarkable as it’s even better than Tesla Roadster and Model S Plaid Plus as well. Both of these cars sit at the pinnacle of electric cars.

However, we haven’t seen any safety rating on the website of this Canadian EV maker which is concerning.

Although there are airbags, it would be better if its makers crash test it.

What do you guys think? Should we call it an electric car or an electric bike with a roof? Share your views in the comments section below.

What Is Battery Management System (BMS) In Electric Cars?

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Wednesday, 24 March, 2021 - 11:08 · 2 minutes

Battery Management System BMS In Electric Cars (1)

The Battery Management System (BMS) is a system that manages and protects the battery for its well-being in any electronic device. It monitors multiple factors like the voltage, current, state of charge, temperature, and more.

However, there are three main functions of a Battery Management System.

    • Protection of Battery Packs: It protects the battery from getting damaged by being overcharged (when the voltage gets too high) or discharge (the voltage gets too low). BMS constantly monitors all the cells in the battery pack by calculating whether a safe amount of current is going in (charge) the cell and coming out of it (discharge).

It maintains the safe limit for both charging and discharging of the cells, thus, preventing them from getting damaged.

    • Calculation Of State Of Charge (SoC) : This simply tells us how much energy or charge is left in the battery. It does it by monitoring cell voltages and calculating the amount of energy drained.
    • Safety of Battery : BMS also looks after the safety of batteries by checking and informing if there is any loose connection, any issue with wire insulation, damaged cell, short circuit, or any other fault.

Battery Management System (BMS) In Electric Cars

    Battery-Management-System-In-Electric-vehicles Image: Shutterstock

In addition to the aforementioned functions, BMS does a lot more for maintaining batteries in electric cars.

    • Maintaining Temperature: BMS plays a vital role in maintaining the temperature of the battery pack. It monitors the proper functioning of the fan or thermal fluid in case it’s liquid-cooled. This way it regulates the battery temperature and keeps it in an optimized range.
    • Cell Balancing: Sometimes cells in a battery pack get charged more than others. In this case, BMS intelligently releases excess energy from the overcharged cells to balance the cells.
    • Display Real-Time Values : Most importantly, with the help of BMS, you get real-time values like miles your car can cover, battery percentage, the time required for a full charge, temperature, etc. right on your screen.

For the proper functioning of BMS, calibration is required. Let’s have a brief overview of it.

    What Is BMS Calibration?

If you are an electric vehicle user, then sometimes you may notice that the display containing battery information isn’t showing the correct values.

For example, it may not show the correct percentage or the distance it can cover. This happens when the BMS fails to recalibrate itself successfully. Therefore, to rectify this, the BMS needs to calibrate itself.

There are different ways of calibrating BMS and you will need support from the automaker to do this. However, here are some of the most common practices:

    • Leave your car overnight by completely turning off the power, allowing it to deep sleep.
    • Slowly charging your vehicle up to 100%.
    • Avoid charging your vehicle frequently or every night.

If this doesn’t work or improve the calibration process, then contact your company.

Anyway, this was a brief overview of the Battery Management System in electric cars. We hope this will be helpful for you.

Lucid Air Dream Edition Sold Out But Here’s How To Reserve One

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Tuesday, 23 March, 2021 - 10:37 · 2 minutes

Lucid Air Dream Edition electric car

Lucid Air Dream Edition, the top-spec variant of the electric car Air, is fully booked now. California-based EV maker Lucid Motors recently updated its electric sedan’s reservation status on its website.

However, interested buyers still have a chance to get one by registering on the waiting list.

How You Can Still Buy Lucid Air Dream Edition?

You can opt for the waiting list while booking the Lucid Air Grand Touring which is the second top model of the electric car.

In addition, the customers have to pay an additional booking amount of $6,500 for booking Dream Edition. The total booking amount for Lucid Air Dream is $7,500, which is refundable.

On the other hand, for other variants, the booking amount is $1,000, and for the base model, it’s only $300.

If in case a spot gets vacant, a member of the sales team will inform you. This way you’ll still have a chance to own Lucid Air Dream Edition.

    Lucid Air: A Brief Overview

Lucid Air Dream Edition Sold Out Image: lucid Motors

Air is an upcoming luxury electric car from Lucid Motors. Lucid Air is one of the most impressive and the only legitimate Tesla Model S rivals in the market.

There are four variants of the electric car Lucid Air and ‘Dream Edition’ is its top model. The Dream Edition is equipped with a bigger 113 kWh battery and an electric range of more than 500 miles (EPA).

It’s the only electric car other than Tesla Model S Plaid to offer an EPA-certified EV range of more than 500 miles. Furthermore, being a top model luxury electric sedan, Dream Edition will cost you $161,500 after the federal tax credits.

    Final Thoughts

It’s always good news for any brand whenever their product gets out of stock. The same goes for Lucid Motors as well. However, it would be better if the automaker unveils the total number of reservations.

We understand that Dream Edition is a special edition EV, and only a limited number of units will be manufactured. Anyway, advertising something by saying sold out is always a good marketing strategy.

Directly or indirectly it will benefit the automaker and also boost the sales of other variants of the car as it leaves a good impression on the masses.

These kinds of strategies are not uncommon among automakers. Back in late 2020 when GMC Hummer EV was unveiled, its top model sold out within 10 minutes. However, the GM has not declared the number of bookings.

We can’t say if it’s the right strategy as at the end of the day, the people are still in the dark. It can be a bit manipulative as we only have half the information.

What are your thoughts on this? Share your views in the comments section below.

This Is Why Tesla Semi Electric Truck May Not Be Sold In Australia

      pubsub.do.nohost.me / FossBytes · Monday, 22 March, 2021 - 16:49 · 2 minutes

    Tesla Semi Truck

Tesla may not be able to sell its upcoming electric truck Semi in Australia due to unsuitable road regulations.

According to the current rules, only vehicles that are up to 2.5 meters wide are allowed on Australian roads. However, the Tesla Semi truck is almost 30 to 50 mm wider than the allowed limit. Hence, it’ll not be allowed to run on the roads legally.

In the U.S., the width limit for trucks is up to 2.6 meters whereas, in the European and Chinese regions, it’s 2.55 meters. In all these major markets, Tesla Semi will be able to go around anywhere without any legal implications.

Australian rules are slightly different than those of global market rules. Due to these variations in regulations, it’ll delay or prevent certain vehicles, including the Tesla Semi truck, from arriving in the local market.

Should Tesla Redesign The Semi Electric Truck For Australian Region

Tesla Semi electric Truck Image: Tesla

Recently, Tesla made a submission to the National Transport Commission’s Heavy Vehicle National Law Review. In its submission, Tesla asked the government to amend these rules.

The Australian market is relatively very small compared to the U.S. and Europe. Therefore, Tesla will not make any design changes to the Semi.

Tesla Semi will hopefully hit the international market by the end of this year or in the initial months of 2022. Thus, it seems that the first generation of electric truck Semi will not be sold in Australia.

Australia Needs To Meet International Standards

About 18 months ago, Austroads, the top-most road traffic & transport organization in Australia, surveyed an extensive range of stakeholders. The survey showed that most people want change, and the permissible width of trucks should be increased to 2.55 meters.

However, local truck manufacturers raised objections due to their personal benefits. In addition, there were a few safety concerns.

Austroads said that these safety concerns can be mitigated by mandatory driving training and safety technologies.

The Australian Trucking Association, one of the other bodies that supported the idea of change, said that this would only delay the introduction of zero-emission trucks in the country.

However, the government is yet to announce any modifications in the regulations.

This is not a problem for only Tesla, but other automakers too will face problems due to this clause.

If the National Transport Commission of Australia keeps on neglecting this, it’ll only slow down the entry of heavy-duty electric trucks into the country.

Anyway, what do you guys think about the matter? Share your views in the comments section below.

However, 379 is NEDC certified range; if we convert it to EPA, then it would be around 265 miles, which is close to its real-world range. Here’s a video that explains the difference between NEDC, EPA, and WLTP ranges.

Moreover, ES6 is available in three battery options: a 70 kWh, 84 kWh, and a 100 kWh battery pack. The electric cars from Nio are available only for the Chinese market now.

Nio is among China’s best-selling electric vehicle manufacturers. They also have a worldwide expansion on their cards.

What Kia Niro EV offers is enough for anyone who intends to drive in cities only. However, with a strong network charging facility, one can also consider taking longer trips.

Just like the Hyundai Kona, it is a Front-Wheel-Drive vehicle and is the best choice for you if you want a no-nonsense electric car.

Due to its premium tag, I-Pace comes equipped with features like Park Assist, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as standard.

In addition, the automaker provides 5 years/ 60,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance and new vehicle warranty.

Our Favorite Longest Range Electric Cars

On this list, both Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Kona are among the best and our favorite electric cars. Well, we believe there’s no need to tell you more about Model 3 as most people already know about it. However, if we talk about Hyundai Kona EV, it’s one of the most underrated EVs with an exceptionally long range. Even the car’s ECO mode performs like the Sports mode.

And with its 300 miles of range in regular city and highway driving conditions, Hyundai Kona is an impressive car.

However, if we have to choose one then without any doubt Tesla Model 3 is one of the most value-for-money cars here.

Apart from this, if you have a better budget then go for Tesla Model S as it’s not only the longest-range electric car but an exceptionally high-performance electric car.

The BMW i4 is what the automaker is calling it, an all-electric four-door Gran Coupe with a seating capacity of five passengers.

When launched, the BMW i4 will be the flagship electric car in the company’s portfolio.

According to its makers, the BMW i4 combines the pinnacle of automotive engineering with the efficiency of an all-electric vehicle.

    Performance

The BMW i4 will be the most powerful electric BMW ever with a power output of 530 HP. In addition, it’ll be able to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in about 4 seconds.

In contrast, Porsche Taycan 4S delivers a maximum of 522 HP and needs 3.8 seconds to sprint from 0 to 60 mph.

    Electric Range

As per the press release , the BMW i4 will offer an electric range of up to 590 km (366 miles) as per the WLTP cycle and 482 km (300 miles) as per the EPA norms.

Although the electric range of the BMW i4 is not as impressive as that of the Tesla Model S or 3, it’s still quite competitive for others.

With this range, the BMW i4 will give tough competition to both Porsche Taycan and the upcoming Audi e-tron GT .

In fact, in terms of range, it will have an edge over the Porsche Taycan that offers an electric range of up to 227 miles (EPA).

    Design

Like its brand, the BMW i4 looks simply elegant from each angle. Speaking of the side profile, a longer wheelbase, lower roofline, and elongated bonnet redefine a classic coupe design. In addition, the sharp blue stripes stretched along with the doors and the triangular alloy wheels give it a refreshing appearance.

Similarly, the new front grilles, sharp headlights as well as tail-lights along with the essence of blue lights and sleek lines enhance the overall look of the electric sedan.

Moreover, the application of blue paint also distinguishes it from its conventional ICE siblings and resembles the electric energy inside it.

Launch Date And Price Of Electric Sedan BMW i4

The BMW i4 electric sedan is scheduled to launch in the course of 2021 in the European market. On the other hand, in the U.S. you would be able to buy it sometime in 2022.

If we talk about the price, nothing is confirmed yet. Also, due to limited information, it’ll be too soon to guess the prices.

    Final Thoughts

Although we don’t have the full specs of the BMW i4 yet, we are quite positive that in terms of ride quality, performance, and comfort it can match the existing players like Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

BMW is famous for its excellent engineering and build quality. Hence, the only matter of concern left was of electric range and EV technology.

With a range of 590 km, it looks like it has all elements to land in the game. Anyway, let’s wait for BMW to unveil its full specs. Until then, do share your views in the comments section below of what you think about this new electric car.
