    Downhill racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde dislocated his shoulder in a nasty crash and posted a photograph Sunday with his partner, Mikaela Shiffrin , at his bedside in a hospital in Bern where he had surgery.

    Kilde was airlifted by helicopter from the finish area Saturday at Wengen after crashing into course-side safety fences off the final turn of the longest race on the World Cup circuit.

    Mikaela Shiffrin held on to a big first-run lead to win a women’s World Cup giant slalom amid tough course conditions on Thursday for the American’s record-extending 92nd career victory.

    Shiffrin lost most of her advantage as she skied a rather conservative final run, posting only the 17th fastest time. But it was enough to beat Federica Brignone by 0.38 seconds, a result that sent the Italian to the top of the discipline standings.

    Dealing with a bruised bone in her left knee after a training crash 11 days ago, Mikaela Shiffrin would have been happy with second place. But it turned out even better for the American in Levi, Finland.

    Petra Vlhova, who led Shiffrin by 0.76 seconds after the first run of their World Cup slalom on Sunday, looked set for another clear victory.
