While many remain provocative though peaceful, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and divestment by their institutions from companies with ties to Israel, hundreds of students and outside protesters have been arrested, and there have been some fierce clashes with police.

At least six people killed as overnight storms flatten towns in parts of eastern Indiana and western Ohio

A cluster of more than 10 tornadoes that swept through five states has reportedly killed at least six people and injured more than 100, with others missing early on Friday, after severe storms left neighborhoods splintered and brought down power lines.

Parts of eastern Indiana and western Ohio were hit especially hard in the deadly severe weather overnight and the extent of the destruction and the toll on residents was still not clear as first light illuminated flattened towns on Friday.

Karen Casbohm and Loreen Bea Feralo were arrested after they allegedly used the body of deceased housemate to access cash

In a case that bears more than a passing resemblance to the plot of the 1989 film Weekend at Bernie’s, two Ohio women have been accused of driving a dead man’s body to a bank to withdraw money from his account.

Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, were charged Tuesday in Ashtabula with, among other things, gross abuse of a corpse. Police said they received a call Monday that two anonymous women had dropped off a body at a hospital. Later one of the women contacted the hospital – the Ashtabula county medical center – with information on the deceased, identified as Douglas Layman, 80, of Ashtabula.

The Biden campaign keeps fumbling basic progressive causes – allowing Trump to falsely paint himself as a populist hero

Joe Biden visited East Palestine, Ohio, the site of a massive train derailment and ecological disaster, for the first time last week. The problem, of course, is that the accident happened over a year ago. Donald Trump visited while out of office, only two weeks after the initial disaster.

The mismatch encapsulates a major problem for the Democrats’ messaging. They have allowed Trump and the Republican party to position themselves more and more as representing workers and victims of corporate negligence and malfeasance. Biden and the Democrats must change their positioning and economic messaging to reassert that they will fight for workers.

A year ago on 3 February a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in a small village on the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania. A few days after the derailment, officials decided to vent and burn the chemicals it was carrying to prevent an explosion.

Those still living in East Palestine and the surrounding communities have been told the air they breathe is safe, but many aren’t confident in what they’re being told.

So what led to the derailment? What’s changed in terms of legislation to make sure this kind of accident doesn’t happen again? And how are residents coming together to advocate for their safety and that of fellow Americans in the future?

Abortion clinics have asked judge to block ban after amendment to state constitution was passed enshrining right to procedure

The Ohio supreme court has dismissed the state’s challenge to a judge’s order that has blocked enforcement of Ohio’s near ban on abortions for the past 14 months.

The ruling moves action in the case back to the Hamilton county common pleas court, where abortion clinics asked Judge Christian Jenkins this week to throw out the law following voters’ decision to approve enshrining abortion rights in the state constitution.
